This month’s e-zine focuses on Children’s Eye Health. We are featuring two public articles related to this topic combined with other interesting pieces, like our Practitioner of the Month, who is a California- based pediatrician; or the story of the blind baby and of course, a protocol to help stimulate improved eyesight.

The performance of our eyes depends on much more than the eyes, nerve conduction and processing of the brain. As stated so beautifully by Marc Grossman, O.D., L.Ac.: “I believe that eyesight is not an isolated phenomenon but is rooted in our totality. Our being includes our genetic makeup, the food we eat, our work environment and exposure to air borne toxins, as well as our belief systems about ourselves and our world. Each unique individual literally takes in the world through the senses, primarily vision.”

I highly recommend considering our waste and toxicity levels and more importantly, the reduction of both with well working liver functions. This is a different perspective, which is given consideration by Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). It is said that the liver opens into the eyes. The liver blood nourishes and moistens the eyes. Dry eyes, red, bloodshot eyes, blurred vision, spots or floaters, poor eyesight and poor night vision are due to liver blood deficiency or liver fire.

It is also understood that the eye is nourished by all of the internal organs in the body. Therefore an imbalance in any of the internal organs may lead to eye disease.

Marc Grossman, O.D., L.Ac., notes that visual health is a dynamic process including such considerations as:

  1. the type of work we do (90% of accountants are nearsighted while only 10% of farmers are nearsighted);
  2. lifestyle, which includes whether we smoke cigarettes, drink alcohol and coffee, exercise, attitude, etc.;
  3. adaptation to stress;
  4. computer use;
  5. what we eat as well as how well we absorb nutrients;
  6. health conditions;
  7. medications;
  8. genetics

Since the age of 7, I was wearing reading glasses due to corneal irregularity. At the age of 36, when I started to use ONDAMED on myself, I noticed that my eyesight improved and that I no longer needed reading glasses.  I observe the same phenomena with my patients who often see clearer and in more vibrant colors as they’re cleansing cells and tissue from within with help of the ONDAMED, along with improved nutritional habits.

On a different note, I am excited to share with you that ONDAMED received approval from the Health Sciences Authority (HAS) in Singapore for the indication:

Ahimki Center for Wholeness – Stories from the Heart Series

Blind Baby Healed With ONDAMED

Dr. Mark founded the Ahimki Center for Wholeness, Inc. in 1995. The name “Ahimki” is the combination of the Sanskrit word ahimsa (harmlessness toward life) and ki (universal life force). Dr. Mark’s mission statement says it all:

“Ahimki” is a word which symbolizes our commitment to honor the sacredness of all life, and our respect for the vital force that flows through all living creatures. We seek to teach and heal, and thereby express our love for Mankind, the Earth, and the Infinite Universe.”

While there are many amazing stories of healing that have occured at this center, one in particular captured our hearts. This is the heartfelt story of the blind baby who regained the beautiful gift of his vision.

One day, a grandmother brought her infant grandson in for a consultation, curious about the ONDAMED healing system. The chief complaint was his eyesight; he had been diagnosed with blindness by his primary care physician. A specialist for infants was also consulted who diagnosed the baby with a retina tissue challenge, which was also confirmed by the primary care physician.

The grandmother brought the baby back for a series of 4 sessions with the ONDAMED device.  The protocol was to use the grandmother as a surrogate to hold the baby while the ONDAMED was in operation.  The stimulation proved very effective. The ONDAMED helped balance the baby’s energy field and offered relief of stress in the nervous system. The result was that the baby could see again, after only 4 ONDAMED sessions! This was confirmed by the specialist and primary care physician.

I also believe another major contributing factor to the significant and quick results produced was the special bond formed between the grandmother and the baby during these healing sessions. The power of love can be such a powerful one and although it cannot be seen, or captured in a jar to study, it is most definitely felt.

The grandmother told her family and friends about the miracle. The whole family came to see me and thanked me, full of emotion and gratitude. I informed them I was only a channel, assisting with the whole healing process.

I, too, agree with the family that it was a miracle.  A miracle which involved many important elements: Faith and trust in God, family love and support, a caring and knowledgeable practitioner and the powerful ability of the ONDAMED System.

I have used the ONDAMED System in my practice for over 7 years and have witnessed spectacular  results and firmly believe in its significant abilities. What made this story even more special was the fact that it was the first time I had used the device on an infant. It was indeed a breakthrough in treatment.

The ONDAMED is without a doubt the ultimate technology in the field of energy medicine and our hope is that more and more people will continue to learn of its abilities to help the human body heal itself.

Improved Eyesight Protocol for August

ONDAMED Improved Eye Sight Protocol

Use: 1 to 2 Sessions per week (with min. of 48 hours apart). Upon completion of Session 5, I suggest you work with Module 1 for 12 minutes, Module 2 (1-2 programs), and Module 3 (as often as main frequency causes patient reaction) with the help of biofeedback, scanning the body, and placing applicators on main reaction areas. Then repeat this protocol.

An “Eye-Opening” Shift in Classroom Learning

(NAPSI)—Computers and Smart Boards are a common staple in today’s classrooms, and with programs like “bring your own device” to school, smartphones and tablets are also seeing increased use in schools. The use of technology both in and out of the classroom has many benefits for students, but it can also take a toll on their eye health and vision if proper precautions aren’t followed.

According to the American Optometric Association’s (AOA) 2013 American Eye-Q survey, 85 percent of parents indicate their children use electronic devices up to four hours per day. The survey also indicates that 41 percent of children have their own smartphone or tablet and 32 percent use both e-books and textbooks at school. Additionally, 66 percent of children use a computer or tablet to do homework or study. With the consistent use of electronic devices both in and out of school, children of all ages can face a number of visual challenges.

Electronic devices

Frequent, prolonged use of technology can lead to a temporary condition called computer vision syndrome, or CVS. Symptoms may include eyestrain, headaches, fatigue, burning or tired eyes, loss of focus, blurred vision, double vision or head and neck pain. To rest eyes, students should follow the 20-20-20 rule—take a 20-second break every 20 minutes and view something 20 feet away.

As the use of electronic devices increases, eye doctors are providing age-specific tips and warning signs for parents and teachers to be on the lookout for this school year that may indicate an undiagnosed vision problem or CVS:

• Preschool/Kindergarten Children: Limit tech time to two hours or less and increase screen font size. During this stage, parents should also be aware of physical signs that may flag a potential vision problem, such as:

• Improper eye alignment or if one or both eyes turn inward or outward

• Excessive blinking or eye rubbing when children do near work

• Difficulty recognizing colors, shapes, letters and numbers.

• Elementary School Children: Encourage kids to use smartphones only for quick tasks such as texting, and to position devices half an arm’s length away—slightly below eye level. Parents should ask children at this age:

• Do words “swim” on a screen or in a book? Do they lose their place frequently when reading?

• Does the child experience frequent headaches during the school week or while performing near work?

• Are the child’s grades high in nonvisual classes and lower in other, more visually focused classes like math or reading?

• Middle/High School Children: Remind students that computers should be positioned 20 to 28 inches away from their eyes, with the top of the screen at eye level. Background settings on smartphones should be adjusted to keep vision comfortable. To stay involved with children’s vision, parents should ask:

• How long can my children read before they need to take a visual break?

• Does my child perform with a lowered level of comprehension?

• Does my child experience discomfort or fatigue or have a short attention span?

Additional warning signs include:

• Squinting while reading or watching television

• Turning or tilting the head or covering an eye

• Consistently performing below potential or struggling to complete homework

• Having behavioral problems.

The AOA recommends that a child’s first eye exam take place at 6 months of age, then at age 3, again before kindergarten and yearly thereafter. To find an optometrist nearby, or for additional information on children’s vision and the importance of eye exams, visit www.aoa.org.

Most schools in this area are back in session, and students are establishing routines, completing homework and learning new skills.

Local optometrists agree one of the key components to educational success is a child’s ability to see properly. August is Children’s Eye Health and Safety Month, and area experts urge parents to have regular screenings and eye exams.

“Vision screenings and eye exams are of primary importance,” said Dr. Tom Baker, of Family Eye Care. “No age is too young to have a screening, and parents should have their children examined before they begin school. We cannot do the same types of things with a 2-year-old that we can with a 20-year-old, but valuable information can be gained by screening young children.”

According to the Envision Foundation, proper vision screenings are essential for early detection and intervention of vision problems in children. More than 80 percent of learning is visual, and Baker said a child often has no frame of reference when it comes to visual impairment.

“It’s different when you deal with children,” said Baker. “Children can’t come home and say to their parents, ‘I have an astigmatism,’ because to them, the way they see is normal.”

Dr. Alissa Proctor, associate professor and chief of the Infant Vision Clinic at Northeastern State University’s College of Optometry, said if kids’ vision issues are not properly diagnosed, it can have a huge impact on their ability to learn.

Eye exam

“We’ve seen many, many cases where children are documented as being diagnosed as having autism or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, when all they really need is glasses,” said Proctor.

Baker agrees. “My experience is many children who are labeled as having attention disorder problems also have visual problems,” said Baker. “Now, wearing glasses doesn’t necessarily fix a behavioral issue. For instance, a child who is hyperopic – or far-sighted – cannot maintain concentration when told to sit in a chair and read a two-page paper. As soon as the eyes go out of focus, he’s up doing something else.”

Eye exams should be scheduled for babies. Proctor recommends having a child’s eyes examined for the first time when she reaches 6 to 9 months of age. “There’s also a national program, InfantSEE.org, in which parents can type in their ZIP code, and find a list of doctors that will provide a comprehensive eye exam at no charge,” Proctor says.

Proctor said school-age children who have no documented vision problems should have eye exams every year or two. “This schedule should be maintained until, well, they reach the age when they need readers. You know, when you have to hold a paper farther away for it to come into focus,” said Proctor, with a laugh.

NSU’s vision clinic takes children from ages birth through 7. They accept SoonerCare and most insurance, and appointments are available on Monday and Tuesday mornings.

“We also have a pediatric vision clinic, in which we see mostly at [Cherokee Nation] Hastings [Hospital],” said Proctor. “Also we do school vision screenings every Friday morning. We screen about 80 kids per morning, and visit all the local elementary and rural schools. It’s important to get them the help they need to be successful in school.”

Baker said, given the vast expanse of electronic devices today, proper vision care is key not only to educational success, but in the workforce.

“Computers, and all the smaller electronic devices, are not going away,” said Baker.

“Every single job requires you to work with one or several of these. If you cannot see  properly, you cannot function. If you cannot function, you cannot perform at your job, and if you can’t do that, you can’t keep your job.”

Two ONDAMED Cases from Her Patients:

One of her patients had been struggling with a severe head cold for a week. When she returned to work on Monday and still seemed no better, Dr. Mary Anne recommended the ONDAMED machine. She had nothing to lose and desperately wanted to get better, so she agreed to try it. During the session she reported her left ear popped and unplugged, and after the treatment she felt completely well.  It was absolutely amazing, she said!

Another patient suffered from chronic sinus headaches and had tried many different things over the years to limit the length and severity of the headaches.  She decided to try ONDAMED and found that her headache dissipated in less than three hours after the session. In her own words, “It is the best solution I have ever found.”

Personal Statement from Dr. Mary Anne:

I have been using ONDAMED for about 4 years.  Originally, I was looking at a soft hyperbaric chamber for children suffering from cerebral palsy.  While attending an ACAM conference, a friend from Mexico who also sees children suggested the ONDAMED as a more versatile device.

I bought it and now use it with adults and children alike, but tend to use shorter preset programs for the children.

It really helps with croup! I just did 118 on 2 children one day and both parents told me the scary croup cough was a mild regular cough by morning.  I use ONDAMED for Otitis, asthma, cerebral palsy, and GI dysfunction, sleep issues, and mononucleosis and have been utilizing ONDAMED more and more with ADHD and ASD. 

We love seeing the amazing results in the children we treat with this non-invasive approach. Children embrace the stimulation and parents are thankful for this non-toxic health approach.

I will often run a preset program for a patient at the end of an appointment related to their chief complaint such as #19 for otitis and allergies, 113 & 118 for upper respiratory issues and asthma, or sometimes 47 or 48 for adults. I have been experimenting with the skin allergy preset for eczema and I often use 51 for sleep issues in older children.  I use osteopathic treatment for all my patients and ONDAMED follows nicely afterwards.

I also use an integrative medicine approach and stress a whole foods diet. I believe that each child and family is unique and one approach cannot be used for everyone.
